Tribute to Alexander McQueen

A year ago fashion lost one of its favourite designers. This post is a dedication to the man who saw fashion as art and inspirited all of us to love skulls !

As mentioned in www.alexandermcqueen.com  “Integral to the McQueen culture is the juxtaposition between contrasting elements : Fragility & Strength, Tradition & Modernity, Fluidity & Severity”.

The designer who was born in London in 17th March 1969 has won 4 British Designer of Year Awards (1996-1997-2001-2003). In 1996 he became head designer of Givenchy succeeding John Galliano.  He designed for Givenchy until March 2001.

After his tragic death last year –(exactly  9 days after his mother death, he was found hanged in his wardrobe) Sarah Burton became Lee’s successor and the creative director of his brand. She was, for many years, his right hand and in October 2010 she completed his last unfinished collection.

Burton commented: “The creation of modern beautifully crafted clothes was at the heart of Lee’s vision. I intend to stay true to his legacy”.
